String curtains are a relatively new product in the UK having become very popular in Continental Europe and the USA over the last year or two.
They are a fashionable and innovative method of enhancing windows and are gradually replacing outdated, old fashioned and boring net curtains.
They are particularly attractive, inexpensive and versatile and can be hung both from curtain tracks and poles or even simple rods. They are completely ready to hang and can be hung side by side to cover any width window and can also be cut down for shorter drops, giving privacy, but not blocking out the daylight.
Not only can they be used as window furnishings but make ideal room dividers and door curtains, or simply hung in front of walls as decoration. In addition to their use in domestic settings, they have numerous contract possibilities eg shop window displays or backdrops, exhibition stands, concerts and functions in which they can be hung on hoops from ceilings and lit from spotlights giving amazing “chandelier” effects.
By using different colour combinations alongside each other, creative designers can achieve wonderful, attractive and truly innovative effects at minimal cost.
Floral fabrics give your window and home a cosy yet styled effect. For many years homes have been decorated with floral prints and it is style that never seems to become dated. They look great with country style decor as well as a lift to more contemporary homes.
Floral curtains and fabrics are tradional cosy and uplifting. English designers have always produced floral designs, sanderson, malibar, gp and j baker, laura ashley to name a few.
Floral particularly look great on smaller windows as more busy smaller patterns can fool the eye into thinking that they are bigger than they really are.
The floral fabrics
are especially suited to valances, tiebacks and frills. People often believe floral fabrics to be expensive but this is not the case at curtain fabrics online. We have florals from only £2.99 per mtr
With the current fashion for eyelet curtains we are often asked by customers how do we measure for eyelet headed curtains. The way to measure for eyelet curtains is to measure from the top of the pole down to the point at which you would like the curtains to finish. The drops stated on the ready made curtains are always from the top of the ring down to the bottom of the curtain. Again with made to measure curtains we ask for the drop from the top of the pole and take the curtain drop as being from the top of the eyelet so there is a few centremetres of fabric over the finished drop size.
In terms of the curtain width we would normally recommend double gather. Double gather means that you double the size of the pole in fabric so the curtains hang nicely when closed. The stated sizes with ready made curtains are literally the size of one curtain laid out flat. The curtains are sold in pairs so the stated size also acts as a guide as to the size of pole the curtains will fit. With the custom curtains we ask for the pole width and the website will allow for a nice gather when creating a price.
Often when decorating your home the bedrooms are left until the last rooms to receive attention. Overlooked, in favour of the more prominent public living rooms. A bedroom however is a very important space. A calm and soothing space can mean a better night’s sleep and happier days. A calm serene bedroom will make a more relaxed person.
The art of ensuring your bedroom is place of relaxation is to make sure that firstly it is uncluttered. Minimize the furniture, to maximize space. Choose furniture that enables maximum storage hiding all the clothes, beauty products and general clutter that afflicts many bedrooms.
Make sure that any furniture including the bed is in proportion to the size of the room and avoid having all the furniture on one side of the bedroom. Instead be careful to create a sense of balance and the bed space will feel much less enclosed.
Once you have your room decorated and furnished, next will come the textiles. The curtains and bedding are extremely important to the overall feel of your room. Light creams and natural colours will add to the feeling of light and space whereas rich colours such as aubergine or claret will make the bedroom more vibrant and exciting.
Blackout curtains or blackout linings can also be a useful addition to a bedroom. Blackout lining attach to your existing curtains and mean that the window is 100%blackout. Blackout curtains come ready backed but are again 100% blackout.
Cushions and mirrors can also give the bedrooms decoration a since of depth and interest.
Decorating a bedroom can be an exciting challenge and just if not more important than the public areas of the home
